Last month, Justin Bieber announced his recent engagement in an Instagram post, both declaring his love for his fiancée Hailey Baldwin and declaring God’s perfect timing in the major life event:
“Was gonna wait a while to say anything but word travels fast, listen plain and simple Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindLY. I promise to lead our family with honor and integrity letting Jesus through his Holy Spirit guide us in everything we do and every decision we make. My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else.”
“You make me so much better and we compliment [sic] each other so well!! Can’t wait for the best season of life yet!. It’s funny because now with you everything seems to make sense! The thing I am most excited for is that my little brother and sister get to see another healthy stable marriage and look for the same!!! Gods timing really is literally perfect, we got engaged on the seventh day of the seventh month, the number seven is the number of spiritual perfection, it’s true GOOGLE IT! Isn’t that nuts? By the way I didn’t plan that, anyways My goodness does feel good to have our future secured! WERE [sic] GONNA BE BETTER AT 70 BABY HERE WE GO! ‘He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains FAVOR from the Lord!’ This is the year of favor!!!!”
And this past week, Baptist pastor Murray Campbell has praised the young pop star for promoting preacher Tim Keller’s book “The Meaning of Marriage”.
Bieber was captured on video leaving Baldwin’s New York City apartment last Wednesday night with the book in hand. When asked why he was spotted by some fans crying, he held it up to the camera saying, “You have good days and you have bad days. It’s not real if it doesn’t have any bad days.”
Campbell explained on the Gospel Coalition why the singer’s promotion of the book is so crucial in today’s society.
The book has been found by some to be controversial due to its countercultural perspectives on premarital sex and wives submitting to husbands.
However, Keller, the founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, has found a way to “frame marriage relationships in a consistent and attractive way that helps makes sense of why marriage should be monogamous and why there are gender complementary roles in a marriage.”
Penned with his wife Kathy, Tim dives deep into the glorious institution of marriage as it is made to be a sacred representation on earth of our relationship with Christ.
Campbell, who uses “The Meaning of Marriage” in both pre-marital and marriage counseling says that too often people “parody and caricature ideas that we don’t like or can’t comprehend, rather than taking the harder and more honest approach, which is to understand concepts on their own terms.”
He hopes that the book helps to enrich the marriage of Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin as well as promote the message that these sacred marriage values ordained by God are still relevant in today’s culture.
